Butterfly houses simulate nature while simultaneously controlling climate and life itself. Emerging from the traditions of botanical gardens, imperial collecting practices, and the colonial circulation of plant and animal species, they represent a longer history of relocating and classifying the “Other” within Western systems of order. Butterfly House is a performative and cinematic investigation of this condition.

The young revolutionary therian Imor enters a butterfly house in order to free the butterflies confined there. Restless and disoriented, they live trapped within an artificial, controlled environment.
